Adulting 101: #Wisdom4Life

How many times have you heard someone say "They don't make an owner's manual for life," or "I wish there was an instruction book for growing up?"  Well now there is.

In a nutshell, Adulting 101: #Wisdom4Life by Josh Burnette and Pete Hardesty is just that, a guide to growing up and becoming an adult.

Adulting 101 is written specifically for the high school or college age person who is really just starting to find their own way in the world.  The person who is starting to take on new responsibilities and stand on their own.

This is one time that I happen to personally know one of the authors and when I asked him why he wrote the book the answer was simple.  As an operator of a Chick-fil-A, Josh Burnette, is around a number of young people, many of whom are not ready for life.  They have no idea how to write a check, mail a letter, buy a car or get insurance for a car once they have purchased it.  After being approached by a number of his employees with basic questions about life, it became apparent that this book needed to be written to help the young people of today learn the "survival skills" it takes to be adults.

Realizing that there is this gap in education on how to simply live, Burnette teamed up with Pete Hardesty, a Young Life college division coordinator, who had been a leader and influence in his life and together they came up with Adulting 101.

While I suggest reading Adulting 101 from cover to cover it can also be used as a reference book that can be referred back to whenever there is a question on a specific topic.  With sections on getting a job, relationships, handling money, and time management, Burnette and Hardesty present a road map to growing up and stepping out into the world.

"This sounds like a book for young people only.  I'm already an adult so this book is not for me," you might be saying.  True, Adulting 101 is written for young people but even as someone who is a bit removed from being a "young person," I still found the book to be helpful in my life.

For me, Adulting 101 provided reminders to things I knew but maybe had not thought about for awhile.  It also gave me the young person's perspective so that I was able to think about and realize some of the things that today's youth are not being taught in school and discover areas where I can help to guide and direct them as they plan for their futures.

Personally, I have found that Adulting 101 is a great book for everyone of any age to read but is a must read for those moving into adulthood.  Adulting 101 is also one of those books that makes a great present idea for anyone you know that is graduating from high school or college.  It is a gift designed to help them have a brighter future.
